A catamaran offers a great way to explore any area of the world. It’s more stable than a single-hulled boat, generally faster than a traditional sailing boat, and has plenty of space without being too long. You can even choose between motor or sail, depending on which you prefer!
That’s why you need to rent a catamaran in Liguria with skipper. A skipper is the only option if you don’t have a license to sail or use a motor over 30hp. Even if you’re an accomplished sailor you may want a skipper to ensure that you make the most of your trip.
At Sailogy we don’t just provide great boats for you to use. We also take care of you and ensure that our skippers have plenty of local knowledge, ensuring they can show you places that you may not have found by yourself.
You should note that catamarans are wider than mono hull boats, this can make them more difficult to berth in marinas, especially when some of the marinas are exceptionally busy in the peak season.
Most charters start at Genoa, the capital city of Liguria and the 6th largest city in Italy. It’s a fascinating place and you need to make some time to explore what it has to offer. The city has a large port and has been occupied for thousands of years, there’s plenty of evidence of Roman occupation and even the Etruscans.
Highlights include the Piazza de Ferrari in the old town, with a large ornate fountain, it’s the civic center of the city. There are plenty of important buildings in the square around the fountain, including the Palace of the Duke of Galleria.
You should also check out the expansive city wall and the Porta Soprana gatehouse and towers that are still standing today. Additional highlights include the San Lorenzo cathedral, the maritime museum, and Forte Begato just outside the city. This is a city that just keeps on giving.
Of course, there are also plenty of fine dining experiences and shopping opportunities.
But, you’re here to rent a catamaran in Liguria with skipper and explore the coast! Head out to sea and cruise to where the Gulf of Genoa meets the Gulf of La Spezia. You’ll be on the edge of Portovenere, a place brimming with churches, castles, and palaces, all of which seem to be carved into the hillsides. You can even go ashore and hike to the lighthouse, that will give you a different perspective of the sea and the land!
Just along the coast from Portovenere is Cinque Terre, one of the most famous places in Italy and the first National Park in Italy. This stunning spot sees 5 medieval towns built into the hillside, stunning blue water, secluded coves, and even caves to explore. It’s actually a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Coming along the coast back toward Genoa you’ll find lots of secluded bays to explore, most f which can only be reached by boat. Your skipper will guide you to the best ones where you can relax before you arrive in Portofino, the most exclusive town on the Italian Riviera.
Moor up against Superyachts and rub shoulders with the rich and famous as you admire the town, some great food, and the way the other half live!
You should also take a look at Camogli, a more traditional town with some of the best food in the area that’s really worth a visit. Because it’s overshadowed by Portofino it retains the original charm and is a more tranquil setting.
