Kotor: the hidden gem of Montenegro

Cast your mind away from European fashions and discovering tourist trinkets, with a visit to Kotor Old Town. A walled town that safely hides fourteen churches and eight palaces, you are invited to walk the impressive walls high above the town, for a front-row, birds' eye view of the cobbled stone footways, markets and terracotta roof buildings.

Once the glammest stretch of coast on the Adriatic, celebs in the 1970s used to flock to Montenegro, and finally the heydays seem to be creeping back.

Kotor Bay is where most of the action happens and Galion restaurant (Suranj bb) is a more low-key spot where the food is fine and the ambience is rather romantic. The pretty terrace overlooks bobbing boats and the old city walls, upon which, you can have an after-dinner drink. The Citadella open-air bar is a rooftop like no other as you’re literally drinking on the fortress, surrounded by over 400 people on a warm summer night (Stari Grad 433).
