Why sail the Mediterranean?

We admit it, those of us at Sailogy may be a bit biased. After all, just about everyone on the team has grown up in the Mediterranean (and spent a lot of time on boats), so of course we think it’s pretty much the most incredible region in the world, and one that is best seen from its most incredible vantage point: the water.

Covering an expanse of almost 2,000 nautical miles, the astonishingly blue Mediterranean is an almost entirely enclosed sea, stretching from Spain in the West to Greece and Turkey in the East. Historically, the Mediterranean was a critical route of merchants and explorers in ancient time: this great waterway was what made commerce and trade possible, while contributing to important cultural exchanges between the region’s diverse civilizations. Here at Sailogy, we strongly believe that this still remains true today.

In no other part of the world will you find such a vast and varied collection of inlets, peninsulas, bays and--most importantly for the summertime explorer--islands. From Cyprus to Sicily, Hvar to Elba, Ibiza to Andros, the islands of the Mediterranean each boast their own geographical makeup, historical significance and cultural traditions: you could spend a lifetime exploring the Mediterranean’s almost infinite archipelagos and still not see them all.

And that’s why sailing has always been such an important part of the Mediterranean lifestyle. No other form of travel  allows you to enjoy the sun, the sea and the spectacular surroundings of the Mediterranean. Whether you’re exploring Montenegro or the Emerald Coast of Sardinia, a sailing holiday will take you to the region’s most gorgeous beaches and those tucked-away bays that are often unreachable by road. And of course, a sailing holiday includes all the offboard time you could wish for: from Santorini to Split, when you’re ready for solid ground there’s an entire world of culture, food, shopping, tradition and nightlife just an anchor-drop away.

So why sail the Mediterranean? Because there’s no other place like it in the world. And there’s no better way to experience it than on a sailboat. Go rent a boat, rent a catamaran or rent a luxury yatch from our Sailogy certified boat charters and start living the dream!
