When the writer George Bernard Shaw visited the Kornati Islands he said;
"On the last day of the Creation God desired to crown his work, and thus created the Kornati Islands out of tears, stars and breath"
This comment perfectly captures the spirit of this beautiful part of the world. The 140 islands which are located in the Adriatic off the coast of Croatia are popular with visitors who admire their natural beauty.
There are no ferry services from the mainland to the islands. This means that the only way to visit them is to use your own boat, take a recognised boat trip or rent a boat that you can use.
If you choose to rent a boat, you have different options. A popular choice is to rent a motorboat in the Kornati Islands without a skipper. This gives you the opportunity to explore islands like Kornat and Žut which both have their own rock faces, grottoes or caves to explore. Choosing a motorboat means that you can travel between the islands at speed, so you get to see more of the island landscapes.
Kornat is the biggest of the islands and the only one where you can find accommodation to stay in. Visitors to Kornat should know that this accommodation is very basic and there is a severely limited amount of fresh water available. A better idea may be to hire a motorboat without a skipper, so that you can see the sights you choose to and stop at any of the allocated mooring points or marinas.
Kornat, and many of the other islands, lie within the Kornati National Park. You need a ticket in order to visit the park. The most affordable way of getting a ticket is to buy one online before you set off to explore in the motorboat that you hire. You can also buy a ticket for the park from the National Park’s office on Murter. Once you have your ticket, and you have rented a motorboat in the Kornati Islands without a skipper, you have the freedom to explore as you wish.
You can speed across the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic and then moor your boat so that you can take a swim. While you are swimming, you can take some time to get closer to the reefs in the area and the flora and fauna of the sea. After a swim, there are many hiking trails in the Kornatis which you can take time to enjoy.
Having a motorboat to use means that you get to have a lot of great experiences as you do not need to spend a vast amount of time travelling between the different islands. It's important that you choose a reliable motorboat to rent, in order to get the most amount of enjoyment from the Kornati Island experience.
Take a look at the brochures from Sailogy, to find a motorboat that you can trust and that you can rent at a reasonable cost. Once you have hired your boat, you can visit as many of the islands as possible. You may also want to head north from the Kornatis, to Telašćica Nature Park. Here, you can climb the 160 metre tall cliffs in order to get an exceptional view of the stunning waters and rock formations.
After climbing back down the rocks, you can spend some time relaxing before piloting your motorboat onto your next destination. Find a motorboat without a skipper in the Sailogy brochures and you can create your own Kornati Islands adventure.
